Trying
to keep up a fitness routine while not in your normal daily routine is a challenge.
The stress, temptations, and schedule changes of travel can wreak havoc on even
the most ardent exerciser. First,
research your intended destination on FitHotelDirectory.com to make sure that
the hotel can accommodate your fitness needs. Find out what is provided - and
more importantly, what you need to pack for the trip. If your hotel provides in-room
fitness equipment upon request, put in your request at the time you reserve your
room. Build exercise time into your
itinerary. If your hotel offers personal trainer service, make an appointment
ahead of time. Even if all you can work in is a quick run or some stretching exercises
in your hotel room in between long meetings or after an arduous flight. Walk
as much as possible. Park far away - or better yet, don't drive at all. Take stairs
instead of the elevator. Take a walking tour of the city you are visiting. Or
better yet, try a new activity that's popular in your destination. Incorporating
movement in to your day will help even if you don't have time to cram in an entire
work-out. Bring healthy snacks, bottled
water, energy bars, and other nutritious options and store them in the in-room
refrigerator. If the mini-bar is already stocked full of unhealthy selections,
ask the hotel to clear it out before you get there. If
your hotel can provide an in-room VCR or DVD player, bring a work-out video that
doesn't require much room or heavy equipment. Jump ropes, stretch bands, and other
small equipment can also be easily packed in a suitcase for in-room use.
